You can find us on Plymouth Road – which was dubbed “the Champs Elysees of Tavistock” when it was first developed in the 19th century. We are directly opposite Meadowland Park and the Sir Francis Drake Bowls Club – named after, arguably, Tavistock’s most famous son.
There is roadside parking outside Number 5ifty 8ight as well as a generously spacious car park 4-5 minutes walk away. An enlightened Town Council has capped parking charges at £2.00 per day (yes, “per day” and not “per hour” for any of you visiting us from London!) and in the unlikely event that a space in Plymouth Road is unavailable we are happy to refund the cost of parking during your stay with us. We are just a 5 minute – on the flat – walk to the centre of Tavistock.
Tavistock is a historic world heritage site and thriving market town set against the wild and beautiful backdrop of Dartmoor National Park. Its social history dates back to 961 AD when the first stone was laid for the now ruined Benedictine monastery. Whilst the town is situated on the edge of Dartmoor it is but a 30-minute drive from Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City, and 40 minutes from the cathedral city of Exeter. If market towns, moorland and impressive cities are not enough, the wonderful coastlines of south Devon, and both north and south Cornwall are less than an hour’s drive.
